RESPONSE TO ANGRY CIVIL SOCIETY DEMANDING RADICAL CHANGES TO ACJU..

12.05.2017

I refer to the article captioned “Angry civil society demanding radical changes to ACJU” appearing on the 3rd May, 2017 in the Colombo Telegraph News Portal, with baseless allegation on ACJU and its leadership.

In fact, ACJU was established in 1924, more than 9 decades ago, with the then Ulama, in order to serve especially the Muslim Community and the other communities in general. They have been Religious Scholars either Post Degree-holders or Degree-holdersin Islamic Studies. All the Executive Committee members are erudite and graceful personalities whose common motto is sacrifice for Deenul Islam, preaching and practicing. According to my knowledge it is very rare to find globally a Fatwa Division consisting of 40 Religious scholars unitedly serving with differences of opinion. There are 25 District offices and 143 Branch offices in the Island serving the people who have reached to the grass-root level of the community.

It is surprising that your baseless allegations against ACJU and its leadership are only verbal without any concrete proof. On what criteria do you say that ACJU has not got the confidence of our own community without any evidence? ACJU is the only body in Sri Lanka with more than six thousand member Scholars qualified from many countries internationally: from Sri Lanka to South Africa, from Egypt to Medina and from Malaysia to Morocco. Through these allegations you cannot mislead the community who can understand and judge very well who are serving the community and vice versa. The common people have great trust and confidence on ACJU that was built in so many years cannot be marred by just scribbling on your papers. These 6 thousand Religious Scholars are serving in Universities, Masjids, Madrasas and Schools.

As a responsible organization with Shari’ahknowledge, representing the Muslim community fromthe grassroots level the ACJU’s representation is vital to bring about acceptable changes to the Muslim community wherever necessary to the MMDAReformation. This being a Muslim Personal LawDivine law cannot be violated, but, preserved to be accepted without which it cannot be called Muslim Personal Law.

Last time when you wrote a baseless criticism on ACJU, on the humble request of ACJU President, one of my colleagues and I visited you, which was a way of Sunnah to clarify matters directly. We requested you to inquire on your allegations before writing and write something to benefit the people in productive manner, omitting the style of criticism, which is of no use to the people, but, only misleading. Since you are just few distant away you would have visited us before slandering and backbiting ACJU and its leadership.

Good and evil are not equal. Repel (evil) with what is best, and you will see that the one you had mutual enmity with him will turn as if he were a close friend. [41:34]

As far as the ACJU President’s statement is concerned what he told that MMDA is perfect in this stage was clarified by a statement on 3rd April, 2017. The elaborated clarification was issued to media and we feel it is not required to be explained again. Sri Lankans have the freedom to comment negatively or positively; but, ACJU received  a number of positive responses from the common people.

Next the question arises that is it wrong to appreciate our predecessors who have gifted us this MMDA,which was near perfect? When said near perfect it does not mean changes are not required. It was mentioned that some Administrative and other changes are needed. This was misinterpreted by the media. Up to now, since 9 years ACJU has given its fullest cooperation to the MMDA Reformation Committee.

Let me tell you once again, it has been your practice to criticize others in isolation without knowing the fact or knowledge of what you write. This is not constructive at all. ACJU is not exceptional. Preferably it would have been better to visit ACJU, investigate with Executive Committee members and write articles in a productive way. ACJU always welcomes suggestions to consider for the betterment of this Ummah. Hope you will change your style of writing as a sincereMuslim.

and were saying with your mouths something of which you had no knowledge, and were taking it as a trivial matter, while in the sight of Allah it was grave.” [24:15]

O you who believe, if a sinful person brings you a report, verify its correctness, lest you should harm a people out of ignorance, and then become remorseful on what you did.” [49:6]

O you who believe, abstain from many of the suspicions. Some suspicions are sins. And do not be curious (to find out faults of others), and do not backbite one another. Does one of you like that he eats the flesh of his dead brother? You would abhor it. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is Most-Relenting, Very-Merciful. [49:12]

Since I met you personally and discussed with you for better writing I notice this time that you have offended by two ways: one is you have written against the law of the land and next is against the Islamic Jurisprudence.

The End
